• Completed an operational audit of the production functions at an opencast mining operation located in the Republic of South Africa. Scope of work included:
  • Evaluate geologic issues and mine scheduling requirements.
  • Assess and comment on current mining methods and techniques.
  • Benchmark results and compare with international industry practice.
  • Provide recommendations to assist in optimizing resource utilization.
    
    Conducted an on-site visit to observe mine operations, collect historic data, review plans, and interview management, technical and supervisory personnel.
  
  
  
• Completed a due diligence study of an underground mining operation in the Republic of South Africa. Evaluated reserves, mine plans, existing equipment complements, and coal quality issues. Provided recommendations to improve productivity and lower costs.



• Visited potential mining sites in Western Africa to evaluate gold potential in the region. An initial report was prepared discussing the properties and gold opportunities. Report was based on the site visit, meetings with government officials, and information supplied by client. As a follow-up study, a business plan was prepared for our client.



• Acted as independent moderator for contract negotiations between a major African coal supplier and government-owned power generator. Negotiations were conducted over a one-week period at a remote business retreat.



• Conducted an operational assessment of an existing open-pit coal mining operation in Zambia and provided on-site training in equipment maintenance, mine operations, and computerized reporting services. Assignment included:
  • Audit available reserve estimates.
  • Supervise core drilling program.
  • Evaluate mining and environmental regulations.
  • Estimate maximum staffing levels.
  • Evaluate equipment requirements in regard to current technological advancements.
  • Recommend business strategies and corporate organizational structure.
  • Assess coal mining, maintenance, and preparation facilities.
  • Complete an environmental audit and mitigation plan.
  • Analyze marketing and transport options.
  • Assess commercial viability.
  
  
  
• Conducted an in-depth study of a lignite deposit in Turkey to evaluate ability to supply fuel to a proposed mine-mouth generating station. Completed a core drilling program to define and classify reserves. Based on the drilling program and other available data, BOYD performed an independent analysis of coal quantity and quality and prepared mine plans.
