• Examined and surveyed available markets for coal sales from an independent UK coal producer. Evaluated existing coal contracts and completed a study of historical sales, future sales projections, future markets, competition, and total organization of the coal sales department. Also developed coal market prices which were utilized in a cash flow analysis. Conducted a study of the export potential of the coal product to various European countries. Reviewed the coal reserve base and developed independent mine plans for the underground operation.



• Met with power officials in Croatia to assess the potential of constructing an Independent Power Plant in the country. Assessed potential coal supply options, recommended preferred suppliers to our client, and visited the Port of Bakar to assess the potential to receive imported coal.



• Completed site visits to select lignite mining operations in the Czech Republic to evaluate fuel supply to the state-owned utility CEZ. An independent review of the lignite supply source was completed including:
  • Geologic conditions and mineable reserves.
  • Lignite quality.
  • Existing mining operations and ability to meet future fuel supply requirements
  • Environmental issues.
  • Identifying and quantifying possible areas of change to improve the efficiency and cost of existing mining operations.
  • Developing a value for the operations.
  
  
  
• Retained by a leading power producer to complete due diligence of a German power producer and associated lignite mines. Visited the operation and coordinated work on-site with our client. Work scope included:
  • Review existing and expected geologic conditions and comment on lignite reserve estimates and ownership.
  • Assess available quality information and review current blending and screening requirements.
  • Independently review mine plans.
  • Comment on material handling issues and the existing transport network from the mines to the power plants.
  • Review and comment on environmental issues which could negatively affect future operation.
  • Review the availability of other lignite sources in the region.
  • Opine on future mining costs and provide a formal valuation opinion.
  • Review the existing lignite briquette operation and identify associated costs.
