Feasibility Studies
The results of mining exploration programs and other mining related investigations
serve as a basis for evaluating the technical and economic feasibility
of mining.
As proven mining consultants, we have the capability to prepare any level
(conceptual to final) of a mine feasibility report required to meet a
client's needs-from a brief overview of mining potential to documents
suitable for requesting bids for construction.
As a premier mining consultant, John T. Boyd Company's mining related
feasibility studies are accepted by major financial institutions and independent
investors as an objective basis for sound fiscal decision-making-your
assurance of receiving reliable mining projections you can depend on.

Example Projects Include:
- Retained to complete an independent assessment
of two surface mining operations located in the Powder River Basin,
Campbell County, Wyoming. Work scope included:
- Geotechnical study of mining conditions and
a review of procedures designed to mitigate problem areas.
- Review of 10-year mine plans, assumptions,
and financial projections.
- Development of alternative mine plans.
Provide recommendations to improve operational
and financial performance
- Retained by a joint venture to assist in preparing
a feasibility study of opencast mining on six properties within a designated
joint venture area. Developed comprehensive analyses of multiple alternatives
for each property addressing:
- Available reserves, quality, and washability.
- Selection of optimal mining methods and equipment.
- Development of pit design criteria, road network
layout, and facilities location.
- Optimization of pit shell, orientation and
sequencing.
- Development of operating cost estimates for
multiple alternatives.
- Specification of optimal equipment at multiple
production levels.
- Conducted a detailed, independent review of feasibility
studies for a proposed new surface mine using a combination of truck/shovel
and dragline techniques. Assignment included:
- Review geology and reserves in the context
of mineability and quality.
- Evaluate proposed pit design, orientation and
mining sequence.
- Review/revise mine sequencing considering efficient
dragline operations, quality constraints, and production needs.
- Review/confirm capital and operating cost estimates.
- Review infrastructure cost estimates including
buildings, coal handling facilities, and transportation facilities.
