Field Exploration
If warranted, we design an exploration program to assess mining reserve
quantity, quality, and mineability; supervise program implementation;
and evaluate results. The scope may range from reconnaissance level field
investigations to intensive mine development drilling by skilled geologists.
On-Site Experience - As mining and geological consultants, we understand
the unique aspects of remote-location logistics-such as mining equipment,
procurement, accessibility, and staff accommodations. To define specific
site conditions or general geologic trends, we use remote sensing and
geotechnical and hydrological testing.
Beyond exploration, BOYD will analyze the raw data and develop computerized
geologic mining models of the coal or mineral deposit.
Exploration Services
- Exploration Program Design
- Geological Interpretations
- Geophysical Data Analysis
- Analytical Data Analysis
- Exploration Program Management
Example Projects Include:
- Prepared an independent assessment of the remaining reserve
base of a large multiple-seam coal deposit in Kalimantan, Indonesia.
Scope of work included:
- Supervised exploration of the deposit, compiled and interpreted
geologic and geotechnical data.
- Developed a detailed geologic model, reserve estimates, and mining
feasibility utilizing Vulcan software.
- Provided detailed maps and reserve tabulations to our client.
- Performed an independent determination of the remaining
coal reserves at an operating mine in Tennessee. Completed an exploration
program to further define the reserves and mining conditions. Mapped
remaining coal deposits and evaluated roof and floor conditions associated
with future mining.
- Completed an evaluation and conceptual mining assessment
of a lignite deposit in the Konya Province, Turkey. Our assignment included:
- Estimation of quality and quantity of lignite reserves and limestone,
including a 30-drill hole exploration program.
- Assessment of site hydrogeology.
- Development of a conceptual mine plan.
- Engaged on behalf of the Project's Lenders, as part of
the due diligence plan, to monitor and attest to the developed fuel
supply plan prepared by PT. Paitons coal consultant for an Indonesian
power facility. Developed a supplemental exploration program to address
concerns of the quantity of the coal reserve deposit and to meet Project
Lender requirements.
- Completed a full-scale analysis of an undeveloped lignite
mining reserve in Pakistan and potential to supply fuel to a proposed
generating facility. Scope of work included:
- Develop and complete a core hole drilling and sampling program
to estimate the in-place and run-of-mine quality of the lignite
reserve.
- Evaluate beneficiation requirements of the lignite to improve
overall reserve quality.
- Provide recommendations and design of the material handling system.
