Examples of Boyd Projects for Insurance Clients Include:

  • Insurance photoCompleted a damage estimate of plant equipment at a copper mill of an operating company in Chile. Damage occurred due to a collapse of the roof structure. BOYD visited the facility to:

    • Observe completed repairs.
    • Review overall damage to the facility.
    • Collect pertinent data for determining a damage estimate.

     

  • Completed a site visit to the El Teniente copper mine in Chile to investigate and determine property damages resulting from a rock burst at the mine. Assignment included identifying and clarifying estimated costs associated with the work necessary to repair the tunnels and chimney damaged by the rock burst.


  • Completed a site visit to a nickel mine in Qinghai Province, People’s Republic of China to investigate and determine the damages resulting from rainstorm. The scope of work was to evaluate the influence on construction schedule, investment and quality.


  • Evaluated a blasting incident that caused damage to the steel structure of a fixed crusher installation. The incident occurred at a limestone quarry where all blasting was performed by a third-party contractor. Scope of work was to investigate and opine on the root causes of the incident for the purposes of determining insurance liability.


  • Conducted a site visit to observe mine, processing facility, and ancillary operations of a mirabilite operation located in Sichuan Province, PRC, in order to assess the impact of the 512 earthquake and associated strong aftershocks on the physical conditions of the mines and facilities.


  • Completed a Phase I Environmental Assessment of an underground coal mining complex in Washington County, Pennsylvania, for a major insurance and financial concern. Project included a site reconnaissance, research of historical data at the mine and through public sources, a data search through BOYD's library and database, and interviews with key individuals.
