Material Handling and Beneficiation
The mining industry relies on BOYD Mining Consultants' technical expertise
and management assistance in all aspects of beneficiation and material
handling through project supervision and coal preparation plant construction.
As experienced mining consultants, our perspective of the total mining
and marketing process ensures processing assignments are evaluated on
the basis of realistic mining industry practices and are consistent with
market objectives.
State-of-the-art computer modeling techniques are utilized to perform
coal preparation plant circuit material balances and compare actual equipment
performance to expected performance. Our consulting work has resulted
in recommendations for improved coal preparation plant performance, providing
coal preparation plant operators immediate and substantial savings.
As mining consultants, we have successfully evaluated and appraised coal
processing and minerals beneficiation plants and associated coal handling
systems. Material handling items evaluated include: rail, barge, and ocean
port coal loading and unloading facilities; and transportation and haulage
systems utilizing truck, belt conveyor, and railway.
Materials Handling, Beneficiation, and Coal
Preparation Services:
- Preparation plant efficiency
- Coal sampling and coal quality control
- Computer modeling and blending systems design for
quality control
- Coal preparation
- Beneficiation and material handling design
- Initial assessment
- Coal quality data and characteristics
- Preparation plant design alternatives
- Material handling alternatives
- Coal blending alternatives
- Optimal preparation plant design recommendations
- Preparation plant, material handling - engineering
design, flow sheet design, project monitoring, circuit troubleshooting.
Example Projects Include:
- Evaluated the performance of an existing coal processing
plant located in Colorado and recommended alternatives to increase plant
capacity and overall efficiency. Completed an engineering design and
provided specifications for a 300-ton-per-hour plant addition. Worked
on-site at the facility to observe operations and to identify areas
of improvement.
- Performed on-site work at an existing preparation
plant facility in central Pennsylvania which included:
- Evaluate overall plant operation for coal processing
losses.
- Recommend alternatives to improve product recovery.
- Evaluate plant efficiencies and operations.
- Complete an in-plant sampling and testing program.
- Conducted a feasibility study of a coal preparation
plant and blending facility located in Utah. The objective was to provide
recommendations in regard to controlling fuel quality for delivery to
an existing coal-fired generating station. Scope of work included:
- Project mine quality over a 12-year period to meet
generating station contract requirements.
- Recommend and develop an alternative processing
plant design.
- Develop future capital and cost requirements.
- Completed a detailed study of eleven (11) mineable
coal seams in Colombia in regard to coal quality issues. Evaluated coal
cleaning requirements and specifications required to sell the product
in the international market. Recommended preparation procedures and
commented on the entire material handling system from mining operation
to port facility.
- Retained to complete a due diligence review of
a proprietary beneficiation process to remove pyritic sulfur by using
dense media cleaning of ultrafine sized coal. Study also included providing
comments on a 500-ton-per-hour processing facility under consideration
and an analysis of processing, capital, and operating costs associated
with the facility.
