Evaluated development of a world-class coal reserve deposit located in Far East Russia. Coal produced at the proposed mine would be used for thermal power generation and also for use in the coke-making process. Scope of work included:
- Collect and review available data on the project.
- Interview company management concerning future development and strategic plans.
- Identify areas which may require additional work (e.g., core drilling, quality testing, environmental audits, external studies, etc.).
- Complete a reserve, quality, mine plan, transport and market analysis.
- Prepare a feasibility study for review by potential investors.
Reviewed three operating underground coal mining companies (12 mines total) in the Kuzbass Basin of Russia for a major US equipment supplier. Visited all mines and prepared a report discussing:
- Geology and reserves.
- Mine plans and costs.
- Equipment complements and utilization.
- Transport and market issues.
- Environmental issues.
  
  Interacted with local mining officials and representatives of the Ministry of Fuel and Energy.
Completed an independent technical assessment in regard to potential consolidation of underground coal mining operations in Russia. Visited the operations to interview mine management and assess current geotechnical, reserve and mining issues. Provided recommendations to consolidate functions to lower overall operating costs.
