PITT Seam Ownership Map
The Pittsburgh No. 8 Seam consists of only four producers. They include American Consolidated Natural Resources
(formerly Murray Energy Corporation), CONSOL Energy Inc., Alliance Resource Partners LP, and Contura Energy, Inc.
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has reduced coal demand for all the Pittsburgh No. 8 Seam producers through
the Third Quarter of 2020. There has been news that Contura Energy executed a definitive agreement with Iron
Senergy Holding, LLC for the divestment of Contura Energy’s Pennsylvania operations, including the Cumberland
Mine. The equity transaction is expected to close before the end of the year, and upon closing will transfer
to Iron Senergy the subsidiaries that hold Contura Energy’s Cumberland and Emerald mines and the associated
coal reserves, mining permits and operations, infrastructure, equipment, and transloading facilities.

Colombian Coal
Colombia plays an essential role in the world coal market. The country is the 5th largest thermal exporter (as 2019), and is in the top 10 for metallurgical coal and coke exports. Consolidated open pit thermal coal regions have been producing for over 40 years and metallurgical regions are focused in the northeastern departments with mostly underground small and medium size operations. The relative flat and shallow thermal coal seams near the Caribbean sea contrast with the thin, steep and highly faulted geological setting of the interior of the country.
Coal represents ±65% of the mining GDP and ±19% of the total exports of the country, making this mineral a key driver for the economy.
